Importance of Injection Speed
February 1, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Many plastics companies working in manufacturing today utilize the process of injection molding. It can be a complicated process, which means there are plenty of places where errors can occur, causing a variety of defects in the finished products. One of the factors that must be carefully monitored is the speed at which the plastic is injected into the mold.
Why is speed such an important factor in plastics injection molding? Speed affects the temperature of the plastic. If it is injected too slowly, the plastic will have a chance to cool. This can cause wavy lines (flow marks) in the finished product or even a mold that was only partially filled, resulting in an unfinished product. On the other hand, if the injection speed is too high, the product can end up deformed or even have burn marks. It’s important to have an experienced manufacturer for your essential parts.

DHL Logistics has won a decade-long deal amounting to GBP 1.6 billion in revenue to manage a total spend of GBP 22 billion with the UK Government’s Department of Health. DHL plans to target over GBP 1 billion savings over the contract period and will run a division called NHS Supply Chain, on behalf of NHS Business Services Authority.
This contract ensures that DHL is responsible for the delivery of all procurement and logistics services across an initial 500,000 products to support 600 hospitals and other health providers in England. It ensures that public health authorities are able to dedicate more resources to patient care and continue to manage their cost base efficiently. The contract is said to lead to the creation of over 1,000 additional positions within the company.
The NHS Supply Chain will manage a wide range of products including key supplier and maintenance contracts, food, bed linen, office equipment, stationery, cleaning products, patient clothing, medical and surgical equipment dressings and provisions. The chain will also have its own management team and be governed by a Board dedicated to managing the performance of the operations and will be overseen by the NHS Business Services Authority.
Last year, DHL opened a new 250,000 sq ft UK-based distribution centre as a stockholding hub for food and other products. Approximately 1,000 extra employees were recruited to manage the distribution centre. Another distribution centre is to be opened in 2012.
Are you ready for dinnerware made of corn?

Corn might be considered part of a healthy, hearty dinner for many Americans. But would you consider it to be part of your dinnerware? One Texas businessman hopes to turn what you eat into what you eat on.
Plastic manufacturer John Pitre, CEO of Variety Global Business Group of Houston, is looking for between $2 million to $20 million to fund his plans to process and distribute corn-based dinnerware in conjunction with a Chinese company. Rather than be created through plastics injection molding like many pieces of dinnerware are, these items will be vacuum formed.
Although the partnership is being done with a Chinese company, production will be handled in the United States because Pitre says that the costs of shipping from China are extensive, and consumers have more trust in products made domestically.
The plants could potentially create up to 120 jobs at each of the locations it will open, which Pitre says will be announced within the next 30 days. Sites in 15 states are possible, including Ohio, Indiana, Maryland and Georgia. Pitre said the company is seeking to build plants in areas with empty industrial spaces and experienced workers.
The Chinese company VGB is partnering with is Dongguan Honghao High-New Technical Development Co. of Dongguan, China, which is looking to expand its plastics technology into the United States. The company opened in 2000 as a plastic manufacturer, creating items such as wholesale plastic containers for food made from biodegradable products. The company is also selling its turnkey products to other bioplastics manufacturing companies in China and abroad.
