Choosing off road truck tires

September 29, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

If you have a 4×4, you probably know the joys of “off roading”.Driving in to jungles, through muddy areas, sandy areas, water logged areas etc. is a joy that only some appreciate. Most of this fun is made possible by the tires on the 4×4 vehicle. Specifically, they are known as off road truck tires.

These tires are sometimes called otr tires or Off The Road tires and are specifically geared for rough terrain. The tires are extremely tough and provide grip for the vehicle in situations where a man would struggle to walk. As you have probably gathered, these tires are not for everyone or rather ever vehicle. They should only be used in circumstances where they are required, because they tend to be inefficient in other circumstances like driving on asphalt surfaces or tarred roads. This is because the tread pattern on the tire is not designed for smooth surfaces and a as a result becomes somewhat slippery.

If you constantly move in and out of rough terrain, you should consider all terrain tires as your pickup truck tires. But if you live in a city or developed suburbs you should stick to all-purpose tires which do best on street surfaces. If you want go exploring in extreme areas, think about the terrain first and choose your tires accordingly. Sometimes, narrow OTR tires are required and sometimes fatter or wider OTR tires are required. You should also pay close attention to the profile of the tire and the toughness of the rubber.

Is wheel reconditioning safe?

September 25, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

The process of wheel reconditioning is completely safe as it does not deal with any structural changes. The process, from a very simple point of view, returns the wheel to an almost brand new state.

It begins with the cleaning process where dirt and grime are removed. Any rust is also cleared out and the wheel is inspected for any structural weaknesses. If any are detected the wheel will not be reconditioned. Then the wheels are soaked in an iron phosphate bath so as to provide protection against corrosion. An electrostatically charged powder coat is then applied to the dried wheels until a 3mm thick coat is formed. The painted wheels are then cured in an oven and inspected thoroughly after they cool down.

It is advisable to have this process done on your 4×4 every year or so. This is because light truck tiresgo everywhere and as a result end up causing damage to the rims or wheels. Unfortunately, people only notice the damage to tires and generally ignore the wheels. This is dangerous as the wheel could collapse at any given time and that happening in a dangerous situation is not something you should face.

If you want to find out more about this process look online for service centers that specialize in this subject. For example, if you live in Pennsylvania all you have to do is type in “tires york pa” and you will be able to find someone near you.

Finding local truck driving jobs

September 22, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

In times of recession, any job is a good job. However, there are some jobs that people don’t think about which are very, very lucrative.Local truck driving jobs are a good example of overlooked job opportunities. How well do they pay? More than a travel agent’s or a computer technician’s salary.

A local truck driving job is a better option than a long haul truck driving job for a few reasons. Although a long hauler gets paid more, it is because of the risks and dangers they undertake. They are also away from their family for long periods of time and this may not be the life for you. Finding a local trucking job does not mean sitting around the house and going through newspapers. Granted, you will probably find a few jobs there but by the time you call, the job could have gone to someone else.

A better bet is to contact a few trucking companies and register your name with them. Actually “trucking companies” is a slightly misleading term as they are more like brokers than companies which actually own any trucks. Once you register with them, they will send out you name to their contacts. When a requirement presents itself, you will be called up. If you do your background well and register with a reputed trucking company, the jobs will keep coming at a steady flow.

To find a good company near you, use the internet to search for them. For example, if you live in search for “texas truck driving jobs” or “local truck driving jobstexas”.
