DHL’s new, modernized service centre, located a mere two blocks south of O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL broke new ground in 2007. The facility which cost DHL $7 million measures 78,960-sq.-ft will serve as DHL’s local pickup, delivery and sorting operation.
This was DHL’s second major facility investment to enhance operations in Chicago. In 2005, DHL opened a new 70,000-sq.-ft facility on West Cermak Road, also providing pickup and delivery services. This facility served DHL’s largest customers in the financial, legal and banking industries.

The new facility, located close to the airport featured new, state-of-the-art conveyors and sorting systems in order to process a higher volume of customer shipments faster and more efficiently throughout Chicago.
Carl Rodriguez, senior area vice president of operations for DHL said, “The Chicago area has always been an important market for DHL, with a high density of customers ranging from major national accounts to small businesses. This new facility will ensure that customers shipping to and from the Chicago area continue to receive the highest level of service from DHL, and also positions DHL for future customer growth in the area.”

The new facility was opened to improve DHL’s customer access, handling a wide variety of shipments, which included domestic and international parcels as well as palletized, loose-load and container freight. Providing a throughput capacity of 7,500 packages per hour, it employs around 250 personnel.

The new service centre is one of DHL’s many initiatives to improve network efficiencies and connectivity.
